What about the affordability gap? Is there anything between 216,000 and 370,000?

    • GarrethWilcock June 21, 2013, 8:55 pm

That’s what we call the Affordability Gap. There may be something coming in this price point, and there are also resale affordable homes which allow the buyer to earn up to 120% of the Median Family Income (~70k for one person) to qualify. These fall in the 200s typically.

Patiently waiting for something within the affordability gap…. I am single parent making roughly $88k before any deductions. I put lots of money into state and 457 retirement so that amount appears under $60k AGI. Does that qualify me for anything?

Hey Michelle – the affordability gap is still wide. Even with the 120% MFI limit for affordable resale homes, it’s still tough to qualify. I’ll ask Scott to get in touch to give you more ideas.

I am in the same boat. Base 82k single mom, put away lots in 401 k and investment. Do I qualify or is there a section I would qualify for?

Hi Sam – with $82,000 you are above the median family income unless you have dozens of children.
