Lawless Street in Mueller

There are just 18 homes on Lawless Street in Mueller Austin – all built by Meritage in 2007 and spanning the mix of their floor plans. If you’ve taken a walk down lately, you’ll see three for sale signs – two of them from Sherlock Homes Austin. So what’s wrong with Lawless Street?

What is Lawless Street Like?

Back in the day, many of the members of the Mueller Neighborhood Association Steering Committee lived on Lawless – and they have always been famous for their block parties and for their coordinated holiday light decorations – the white arches spanning the sidewalk on each side of the street. As streets go, it’s in a good spot – not too close to the busy streets, yet close to Ella Wooten Park and Pool on one side and Lake Park on the other side. Porches are either East or West facing which means none face South and get blasted by the sun all through the day. What’s not to like on Lawless?

How Many For Sale Signs on Lawless?

Right now there is one home that we sold as a pocket listing – no sign, and only marketing to our email list (for which you can quickly and easily sign up at the top right!) and to our agent list. The owner kindly let us put a sold sign outside to allow us to market ourselves.

There is also another home that we’re marketing. It’s the Meritage 1902 plan at 4128 Lawless Street. It has all the benefits of being on the West side – a great East facing porch to enjoy the evenings from without being melted by the evening sun. The landscaping has been replaced with drought tolerant materials at the front and in the back. This includes the front strip between the sidewalk and the road which is still the homeowner’s responsibility when it comes to yard homes at Mueller. There are gorgeous hard wood floors, and the home is move-in ready.

You can see more details of this home at our Mueller MLS site. The third home is at 4109 Lawless Street, and is the same floor plan as 4128 Lawless – just on the opposite side of the street. The 1902 home is perennially popular with its master bedroom down and game room upstairs – a few years back we sold three in the space of 60 days – two of those off-market.

What does Lawless Mean?

The street is named after Colonel Peter J Lawless. He was a rail road man who spent five decades working for International-Great Northern Railroad – the operators of the line that spanned Texas pushing all the way down to Laredo. He allegedly spent the period from 1886 to 1931 living at the Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin, which surely entitled him to some kind of hotel rewards points. For his troubles, he is now described as being a friendly ghost at the hotel.

Is there anything wrong with Lawless Street?

Far from it. It’s not built on a sinkhole, the houses are being bought as part of some eminent domain exercise to build a railway, and it’s one of our favorite streets in Mueller. So why are there three houses with signs out there right now? Just a coincidence of timing. Anyone buying there now will be glad when it’s baking hot and the pool is just a few hundred feet away.
