So what is a town home, town house, or row home? Oh and don’t forget the new housing style for 2013 – the Courtyard Row Home from Streetman Homes (note – since 2014, Standard Pacific Homes have now bought this builder!) Simply put it’s a connected home in which you own everything inside the walls, and the roof and land below you. Typically these are two story in Mueller, though there are now three story shared wall homes coming too – the Shop Houses, and some of Stan Pac’s luxury homes or Town Green Homes.
Since the row homes and their variants lead to greater housing density, they are typically found on busier streets. In earlier sections of the area that includes Zach Scott Street, Berkman Drive, and parts of Mattie Street. These are the larger thoroughfares, indeed Berkman Drive has been planned and designed to support a street car in the future.
With the added density come a few things to think about. In general, size for a given house price is larger than a comparable free-standing home, and also the HOA dues are higher to support common area maintenance. For many town houses, landscaping is taken care of at the front of the home by the HOA, so you have less yard work! On the flip side, private outdoor space tends to be smaller for these units.
